For sale, from the Library of an art historian: Very good reproductions of "Interior of a Public Bath with nude women" Three continuous scenes, fitted together, composed of 3 woodblocks each.

Three different scenes.

Very good reproductions of "Interior of a Public Bath" Utagawa Yoshiiku (Japanese, 1833–1904) , Edo period (1615–1868), Japan, Triptych of polychrome woodblock prints; ink and color on paper.

Each image: 3 blocks precisely fitted next to each other, forming a total of 3 blocks. Size High 16.5 x Width 34.4 cm

As you can see I have 3 different bathhouse scenes, all three with countless nude women. Each image consists of 3 wood block prints.

Public baths in Japan are an integral part of the culture. Called onsen, public baths could be either municipal or private spaces. These woodblock prints depict a scene in a 19th century bathhouse, occupied by women.
A green line along the floor indicates the separation between the bathing area and the change-room, where patrons leave their clothing in baskets.
As it is customary to have a meal after bathing, posters with Japanese writing along the back wall advertise nearby restaurants and bars.

All three frames photographed in sunlight. Mint condition.

From Wikipedia:

Life and career
Born the son of teahouse proprietor Asakusa Tamichi in 1833, Yoshiiku became a student of ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi toward the end of the 1840s. His earliest known work dates to 1852 when he provided the backgrounds to some actor prints by his master.
Yoshiiku's earliest works were portraits of actors, beauties, and warriors. He later followed Kuniyoshi into making satirical and humorous pieces, and became the leading name in the field after Kuniyosh's death in 1861. He illustrated the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun ("Tokyo Daily News") from 1874 to 1876, and then co-founded the Tokyo E-iri Shinbun ("Tokyo Illustrated News"). The latter folded in 1889, and Yoshiiku returned to making prints. He struggled during his last years, and his last known print appeared in 1903. His three known students, Ikumura, Ikuei, and Ikumasa, failed to achieve recognition.
Yoshiiku had ten children with his second wife, only one of whom survived childhood. Yoshiiku died at age 71 in a temporary residence on 6 February 1904 in Honjo. He was buried at Anseiji temple in Asakusa and given the posthumous Buddhist name Juzen'in Hōkinikkaku Koji.

Here you see the division in 3 printing blocks.

Japanese often talk of the virtues of "naked communion" for breaking down barriers and getting to know people in the relaxed homey atmosphere of an onsen.

A fight has broken out. Jealousy ?

Two men are providing services?

Here the inlay is removed. Protective white paper, and behind it the real print in 3 woodblocks.

Photographed against sunlight. Obviously there is some space between the protective white paper and the print itself. I did not dare to separate the glued white passepartout.

Slight tears in the lightweight outer inlay.

To the right the holes of the steel staples.
