HOW TO GET THERE
The Hague is situated southwest of Amsterdam where I live. It is easy to reach with public transport, by train. I hold a Dutch Railways rebate card. For this train tour I can offer you a special rebate of 40% for three separate adult railway tickets. This makes it economical for you as clients.I can join you from your hotel or from the Amsterdam train station. Various other options are open to you: a) You can hire a car and drive it yourself, and I will join you starting in Amsterdam and will advise you about the best route. b) We can hire a professional taxibus service at around E 70 per hour for about 4 to 5 hours. On top of that you will pay me as the specialist guide. This is the more expensive option.
The Hague is famous for its vast Municipal or Gemeente-museum, whose geometric-inspired yellow brick architecture is a masterwork by Dutch architect Berlage. It houses the world’s best collection of the works of painter Piet Mondriaan / Mondrian. The museum was founded with high ideals: elevating the viewer's minds, for the lower class as well as for the upcoming middle class.

Tour duration: once arrived in The Hague, Gemeentemuseum: 1.5 hours. The other places: 30 mins. each.
I will tell you about the rules of architecture applied here. The building is considered a work of art in itself.
Mondrian is for everyone - but it requires a background story in order to fully understand and appreciate his works.
Victory Boogie Woogy. I will tell you about the dramatic purchase story. (Photo: Gemeentemuseum).
All photos below: copyright Kees Kaldenbach, March 2015, available in large file as well if ordered.
Above: details of the last great work by Mondrian, left more or less unfinished in NYC.
Below: Tryptich Evolution. Probably the key work in his oevre. It also requires a story about philosphy, religion.
And some steps back in the timeline..
Beow the Trees series.
Below: fully fledged abstraction: "Nieuwe Beelding". I will explain about the level of "realism" in it.
A scale model of the Paris apartment. To the right hand top the all-important Pier and Ocean, now in the Kroller-Moller museum. It is the birth ground of all of the horizontal / vertical works.
A scale model of the NYC apartment. On the easle the work shown all the way above. Mondrian left a will in which his friend Harry Holtzman received everything he owned. Another story is about the USA laws and European laws having different points of view about copyright law. It influences the quastion who can reproduce what Mondrian.
