Baroque sheet music composed in Delft by Dirk Scholl during Vermeer's time. MP3 & Images

MP3 and Images of the printed Suites of dances from Triumph of Peace, Thalia's Garden of Delight, Dances in A major by the Delft composer Dirk Jansz. Scholl (1641-1727). He published this material in Delft in 1678. Specialists feel this is the only remaining published sheet music from Vermeer's age in Delft. The only surviving copy of this sheet music is in the Cathedral Library, Durham Cathedral, England. More details on Scholl are to be found in the yellow menu, Artists & Patrons. Find Scholl in the dropdown box Patrons.

Here you will find MP3 files in Low and Medium quality. Our master tape was a small 1990 audio compact cassette tape.

Dedication to the Spiritual Art-loving Musician, Mr. Lambertus Clessius. Each one was charmed by his personal sensuality. Traditionally, intelligent minds and quick spirits were taken by the Measured-singing. The Royal harp-player carries the praise in the Holy Scripture, that he was Sweet in Songs of Israel. I seem to remember to have read from the Great Scaliger, the Miracle of our Literate Century, testifying in his own words, that (?)___ measures in music was not matured. The Honourable Art puts a Spell on the Feeling, transports the Senses and makes us feel enthused as in Paradise by its loveliness : No wonder that Your Loftiness, being gifted with the most precise hearing, and the intelligent judgement of the Measure-tone has progressed and was taken to the heart of exercising : that one is amazed about your thoughts which flow sweetly in the coaxing and sweet caress of Tones, which Your Honour puts before the Ears with enticing movement : happy those, who may enjoy hearing this, and the Master, whose Works of such a good Soul may be adorned and treated: Our THALIA therefore seeks protection under your wings to pass into this World and will be happy to be accepted as such as Dedicated to Your Honour by your indebted servant D. SCHOLL

Delft the 1 November Anno 1678.
