Cornelis Tromp ( 1629-1691) self-important son of admiral Maarten Harpertsz Tromp (1598 - 1653); Cornelis was himself made admiral in 1673; he lived at De Papegaey, at the site of Oude Delft nr 15-21 between 1655-1691. This building with the long high roof and the slender tower is prominent on the left hand side of the View of Delft..

Harper Maertense Tromp is mentioned in the diary of Pieter Teding van Berkhout, lord of Zuylichem, who noted a bitter fight. Harper's adversary Gerard Putmans put it to him that he did not even own f 1000 and therefore should have no seat in the Delft Council of 40. After the fight was over all papers concerning this fight were burnt. Except for the diary. See: Jeroen Blaak, Geletterde levens, Hilversum 2004, p 127.

Note. See Bredius, "Aanbesteding Tromp's Tombe" in Obreen, Archief, V, p. 62-66. Prot.not. W. De Langue, 18 sept. 1655 mentions Cornelia Teding van Berckhout. Address in Ronald Prud'homme van Reine, Schittering en schandaal, biografie van Maerten en Cornelis Tromp, Amsterdam 2001, p. 197.
