Cornelis Musius / Muys (1500-1572). Born in a patrician family, he was an important art patron, being Rector of the St. Agatha Convent and friend to William of Orange. Studied in Leuven and Paris. Member of the Roman Catholic community. Worked as a teacher in Ghent and as a priest in Delft. Lived at the Papists' corner which was situated around Beestenmarkt.

In his study was a crucifixion painted by Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam. Below it were written these lines: "This has been painted by Desiderius Erasmus, don't look down on it, in the olden days when he was unknown in the lands of Steyn". Erasmus went to school in the abbey of the "reguliere kanunniken" (= regular canons?) in Sion near Delft.
