Theme Park Bali Eden 1860 is and incredible Theme Park with time travel back to the 1860's. The natural setting is pristine. The indigenous people are beautiful and unspoilt and go about their daily routines.

A colonial theme park hidden away in a secret green valley in the tropical island of Bali, Indonesia, it is open to only 100 visitors a day, and allows those happy few to look back at indigenous Bali as it existed in 1860, before it was completely engulfed by tourists.

We promise wonderful goodness, in seeing, tasting, smelling, touching - a full day full of Tempo doeloe = good old times.
Paradise regained. Beautiful villagers walk around with exquisite smooth café-latte skins. In religious terms they are Hindu in culture, with a tinge of animist beliefs, not Islamic like the rest of Indonesia.

Ethnology and much more
You and 99 other visitors will be welcomed as their guests of honour. Welcoming guests is a core value of Balinese society.
The main attraction is a splendid natural setting, containing a rebuilt, historically correct village inhabited by various indigenous families, of ancient Indonesian and and Chinese blood.
This heritage is recreated here by a team of gifted actors, including babies, toddlers, happy boys and girls, proud adolescents, beautifully built adults and also grave and wise older men and women who go about their daily activities, and chores. All are dressed in local style, most of them in loincloths and not much more. Bare breasts in males and females are all around.

You are also welcome to knock on doors and ask to see if you are welcome to visit private homes, taste the local foods and have a chat and perhaps a drink of water, fruit juice or alcoholic arak-arak.

Linguistic and cultural diversity
You may first wish to learn some easy words and phrases in Malay, the forerunner of modern-day Indonesian. Your linguistic outreach will help to overcome language barriers. Remember the year is 1860 and the actors are adamant that time stood still after that.

Diversity in manners, customs, dress
Wearing just loincloths, this partial nudity comes so easy and natural here. Instead of having to avert your eyes (common decency the USA way) you are encouraged to really look and look again at the beauty of the female and male form, unashamedly drinking in all their natural beauty. Embarrasment is for puritans, not for Balinese.

Time stands still in 1860
Traditional crafts and arts, including weaving, woodwork, cooking and preparing drinks are all re-enacted. Pounding spices in the age-old way, harvesting rice in the paddy fields (in season only), growing spices, preparing fine local foods. Learn about life in the sawah, dessa, kampong. Learn to fear the evil malicious spirits and ghosts that lurk in the darkness.

Dances
See women and men rehearsing for their local dance festivals, showing off tribal costumes. They present refined stylized dances, bringing back stories of gods and heroes. Drums and gamelan music fill the evening air as the canopy of stars unfolds above your head. Then Wayang kulit shadow play, backlit and shown against a large white sheet, like a movie screen. Age old stories and plays will be performed by a priest-like character.

Dressing up options.
During daytime you may enjoy dressing up as a servant, or as the lady of the house, or as a memsahib, or as a colonial ruler, riding your horse in your starched white suit, tropical helmet on your head, a baton in hand. Looking down upon your obedient, sedate underlings.
During the nighttime performances you may sit next one of our beautiful actors.

Insurrections brewing!
Visit the huts of those who prepare for revolt and discuss the attacks on the evil Dutch authorities that are imminent. Learn about going berserk. See a Pencak Silat group in lightning-fast training, fine-tuning their magical abilities! See them catch a pistol or gun bullet in the air before it penetrates their body.

Looking in at bathing rituals
Girls and women share their dazzling beauty with nature… in the afternoon, taking long, sultry, sensual pleasure baths in shady natural rock pools, the silvery water caressing their bodies and peals of laughter filling the air. A life of indolence and joy regained. The onlookers are also celebrating life.
At exactly 3.30 PM after a day of sweat and toil, most actors between the ages of 15 and 35 fully undress and get all naturally wet under the sparkling local waterfall. This is an age old custom and a sight to belold.


Staffing.
The male Balinese staff is largely indigenous, locally hired from the island of Bali and then properly trained to fit into their historic re-enactment role.
Because of the nudity issues, the female staff has been largely hired on a 6 month on and off basis and originates from The Hague and other cities in Holland. There in The Hague the largest community of persons with Indonesian or Indonesian-Chinese blood is living in Europe. Being raised in the liberal Dutch body culture they are free-minded about being halfway or totally nude and stand proud and are fierce of their heritage.

Photo-safari opportunity.
Our team of ethnologists and psychologists have come up with a gentle way around a well-known tourist pitfall. If you will take 1000 photos yourself this shooting action takes you out of really being in the here and now.
Therefore OUR team will take a professional camera and you can make a maximum of five requests per day for specific shots or footage. At the end of the day you can purchase a DVD with still photos and movies.

Selected visitors.
High standards only.
Hoi polloi do not get in to this Park. Only visitors with innate culture and education and a sense of class will be allowed. There is a strict vetting procedure.

General Hans off! Policy. No pawing.
There is a Hands Off! policy with regards to touching the male and female actors. Offenders will be immediately expelled and whipped. However, in exceptional cases, caresses can be received by visitors and given by visitors to the actors upon full agreement. Touch always remains a privilege after asking, not a right to be purchased.


Entry Fees
Booking Payments by credit card. Cash does not exist in this Theme Park. There is a daytime park entrance fee of E 250 = about US $ 380. You may also purchase a daytime + night time park fee of E 450 = about US $ 700 including your meal, however without any alcoholic beverages. In US dollars this equals about $ 400 to $ 600 depending upon the then current exchange rate.

Decency Deposit. There is also an extra credit card deposit of E 500 (US$ 700), which will be forfeit in case of visitor misbehaviour. Withdrawals to be decided by the management only.
