Chris de Nieuwe offers guided tours on Architecture in the City of Amsterdam. Many highlights of Amsterdam.
Languages: English, Dutch or German.
As I was born and raised in Amsterdam, for me this city might be the centre of the universe.
I offer a number of guided tours in Amsterdam.
Important is of course the structural development of the City of Amsterdam, and its influence on the architecture of Amsterdam.
A guided tour will also show you the architectural styles of the period 1600-1950.
Among the guided tours through Amsterdam:
The center of Amsterdam around the Old Church and the Waaggebouw. In addition the structurally planned city expansion of the 17th and 18th century with the Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht.
In contrast we can also visit the Jordaan area, originally working-class with narrow streets and canals.
A visit to one or two canal mansions would also be a fine possibility (Museum Van Loon and Museum Willet-Holthuysen).
During this guided tour the different architectural styles will be explained.
A further guided tour can consist of the late 19th century and early 20th century areas around the center of Amsterdam. Art deco style buildings (architects Van der Mey, De Klerk, Kramer), and the areas of the so called ‘Plan Berlage’ with late art deco and functional architecture.
