Four hands massage is a massage activity in which a "couple" , under the guidance of a masseur may realize a wondrous and concentrated event.

After performing some opening exercises, by loosening the body by breathing and perhaps after some relaxation exercises, the one who will receive massage first will lay down on the massage table.
To the left of this table is the experienced masseur, touching with two hands. To the right hand side of the table is the other masseur or the partner, somebody willing to explore the art of massage. That partner/student also touches with two hands. In many cases it will be a couple who wish to receive a joint lesson.
We prefer to work four hands massage in peace and quiet, with a few remarks here and there. By the quiet, careful way of working the student is slowly able to master the art. By checking so now and then whether all is well with the one who receives, a respectul line of communication remains open. After some time a switch of active and passive partner is possible if desired.
Recentry we had the honour of massaging a bride and groom right on their wedding day, between 6 and 7 PM in order to form a break between the wedding ceremony and the dinner. We decided to make it a four-hand session and we thus had a wonderful hour of concentration and loving touch.

Massage works by the quiet, healing power of human touch. Touch forms the most direct contact without words between one human being and the next - and it does influence the well-being not only of the skin itself, but of the whole human being. Thus massage yields a miraculous healing power.
The one who receives massage and the one who gives massage are not just concerned with a small part of the anatomy, just an arm or a leg or a back, but they bring with them their totality as a human being. This sense of wholeness includes all feelings and sensations in body and soul from the present and the past. During the massage both the one who gives and the one who receives is at the outer limit of the skin, being the most sensitive and largest human organ - thus at the outer limit of the physical self. At its very best the massage session forms a platform of paradise bliss in a world full of stress and pressure. Massage is living in quality time. The release of energies and endorphins will make you feel good for a long time.

Quiet and Trusting
Giving and reciving massage takes place in inner calmness and concentration on the basis of serenity and trust.
The massage which we give is slow ; it is called 'holistic' or 'intuitive'. It is applied with two full hands on the partner, and is aimed at relaxation and in the best of cases it may trigger - in the one who receives - an inner sensation of flow, peace, serenity and bliss. It is quite allright to enjoy and the mind may soar as well. Our motivation is in the pleasure of giving and receiving.
Structure of a Session
Initially the body is fully covered with a cloth made out of the finest French linen. After the pulsing session - through the cloth - which lasts a few minutes I will uncover one body part at the time so I can touch the skin. I have learned to massage these body parts: in a chair-massage the head, neck and shoulders and during a table massage the head, neck, shoulders, back and the sides, arms and hands ; upper chest ; ribs, stomach, buttocks, legs and last but not least, both feet.
I also do pulsings and stretchings. It is also possible to perform a quiet dance in which the person who receives massage fully accepts the limb movements and relaxation.
Within a session of a good hour a preference choice is made of the body parts mentioned above; this selection is geared both towards the situation and the needs of the one who gives and receives. Before starting I do appreciate a talk and also some 15 minutes of loosening the muscles and grounding the body.
At the end of the session various parts of the body have been touched with energy and care; regaining the sense of unity of the body is reached by the repeated fethery light trace on the whole body of 'energizing finishing strokes' The whole session including optional tea (on my time) does take one hour to two hours.
A physical handicap in a client is no objection. Yet I will not treat serious medical conditions as I am not a licensed physiotherapist. I do speak Dutch, English, German and also some French and Italian and I have studied at the Amsterdam Free University (Vrije Universiteit)
We do receive at home but can also visit; the professional massage table can be moved by car in the Amsterdam area. Lichaam & Ziel [Body & Soul] is my company name.
