Massage
Biodanza is a wonderful dance movement for a group.
Biodanza is form of dance aimed at experiencing the here and the now, an experience of feeling intensely and being alive, in full contact with oneself, the other, and the group. The movement starts outward, rithmically, actively and playful, and invites you to show yourself in order to let you take your space. Slowly the dance becomes more inward in slowness of a melody and the movement also transfers to a persons inner self.
Biodanza always opens in a circle of people holding each others hands and welcoming each other with the eyes. The teacher speaks and introduces the dances. Those who dance will be silent all the way through - in order to properly enter into the body.
What happens in the lesson is a celebration of life in its fullness and “experiencing the poetry of life”, in a system of dance and movement aimed at two seemingly opposing directions:
On one hand Biodanza invites you to make a movement towards the inner self, that invites a feeling of stillness and regression towards the period of early childhood. To leave the mental awareness and enter the feeling. One may think of music by Enya, Celtic flute, Indian percussion.
At the other hand Biodanza works with an outward dance form, aimed at meeting the other dancers, with eye contact and contact of movement, with or without touch. This invites the participants to discover their own place in the group and in the world. That approach opens up contact and growth with playful, humane, creative possibillities. Many, many types of music are being used, from Queen and Latin-American music to Foxtrot and Classical music.
Biodanza has been developed in Latin America by the psychologist Rolando Toro. Initially the system was there for adults, for “normal” people but also for groups of prisoners and psychiatric patients. The effects turned out to be so beneficial and transforming that the movement had caught on worldwide.
August 2010.
Today I experienced the very first tears of joy... welling up slowly in my closed eyes, tears of abundance, goodness, wholeness, really for the first time in my life. Before that moment I knew only of tears of pain and sorrow. Thank you so much for this experience of opening me up. I felt so full and oceanic and safe.
(Anna, in a Hotel room massage with husband present)
In my practice for massage I receive weekly inspiration in Biodanza.
I believe that touch is a great gift between human beings.
Massage works by means of the quiet, healing power of human touch; the most direct contact without words between one person and another. It influences your total well being - not only of the skin itself, but of the entire person. Massage has miraculous therapeutic powers.
Both the people receiving and giving massage are not just concerned with an arm, leg or back, but bring to it their totality as a human being. During the massage, they stand at the outer limit of the skin - the most sensitive and largest human organ - and thus at the outer limit of the physical self. At its very best, the massage session provides bliss in a worldthat can be filled with stress and pressure. Massage provides an experience in quality time - with the release of energies and endorphins.

Quiet and Trusting
Giving and receiving massage takes place in inner calmness and concentration on the basis of serenity and trust.
The type of massage that I give is known as 'holistic' or 'intuitive'. The technnique makes use of two full hands on the client, and is aimed at relaxation. In the best of cases it may trigger - in the one who receives - an inner sensation of flow, peace, serenity and bliss. The body relaxes in enjoyment and the mind may soar as well. I am open minded and welcome all kinds of persons and couples in all kinds of relationship. Among my clients are people from the straight and gay communities.
Structure of a Session
Before starting I appreciate a short conversation as to preferences and problems. Within a long session of one hour and 15 mins, each client chooses which body parts are to be massaged. This selection is geared towards the needs of the person who receives the message.
During a table massage the massage session can deal with the head, neck, shoulders, back, sides, arms and hands; the upper chest (ribs, stomach), buttocks (optional), legs and last but not least, the feet.
Initially the body is fully covered with a cloth made out of the finest French linen. After a a few minutes of pulsing, I uncover one body part at the time.
During pulsing and stretching as a masseur I perform a quiet dance movement, in which the person who receives massage fully accepts the slow movements and relaxation.
At the end of the session various parts of the body have been touched with energy and care. Regaining the sense of unity of the body is reached bymeans of repeated feathery light traces superimposed on the body of 'energizing finishing strokes'
After talking with a cup of tea the entire session lasts about an hour and a quarter.
Please note that I do not treat serious medical conditions.
Besides my work giving massage, I also enjoy giving massage to couples, of any colour or sexual leaning, working together in 4 hands massage and exchanging massage with others.
Dutch, English, German are spoken as well as some French and Italian. Having studied at the Amsterdam Free University (Vrije Universiteit); my title is Drs.
Lichaam & Ziel [Body & Soul] is my company name; I can receive clients either at my home or at my practice in a beauty salon near Leidseplein, Amsterdam. Alternatively, I also make home visits in the Amsterdam area; then I will drive to you and bring my massage table.

Cool background Philosophy inspired by Wilhelm Reich
A quotation from the book by Priscilla Kapel: 'The Body Says Yes : Muscle Testing Tunes into your Body's Needs' 1981:

"The human body has been cherished since time immemorial as an instrument of pleasure and an object of aesthetic delight. Our body is our most intimate posession. As the carrier of our consciousness, it represents the only tangible evidence we have of our existence. Through our feelings about it, and our use of it, we define and express our personal identity. We feed it, train it, worry about it, suffer over it, adorn it with clothes, decorate it with ornaments, revel in its sensations, and marvel at its intricacy and beauty." (...)

MASSAGE THERAPIY AGAINST DEPRESSION
Psychologists at Illinois University have researched effectiveness of massage therapy. A series of visits to the masseur may reduce depression, anxiety and pain. Even single visits may help alleviating anxiety and pain and may reduce hypertension and a high heart rate.
